Days 31 and 32, June 24th and 25th: Hanoi

Moday

The morning began rainy and thus the day was destined for some indoor activity. Actually it was the second rainy morning during our whole trip, so not bad! :) We had a slow starting morning and after the breakfast we watched for some TV. Later we decided to go to the home restaurant to have a lunch after which we took a taxi ride to a shopping mall called Vincom towers. It's a 5 minute drive from the apartment and offers a medium priced shopping experience divided into two different malls. The other one is dedicated to children and the other for the grown-ups. The range of shops included for instance Nike, Kappa, Adidas and Fila among some "design" brands that I'm not that familiar with. It's a place where I think we're going to go later again.

We went through the 2 x 5 floors of shops and then went back home. In the evening we decided to test one Indian restaurant that had been recommended to Laura by some people at work. The restaurant was called Namaste. I never actually have been too much into the Indian cuisine but this one changed my perception! It was really very good! A must restaurant to visit while in Hanoi. The price range was little higher than in the local restaurants but the quality of the food was excellent too.

After the dinner we still stopped at a cafe close to the restaurant and then headed home. I went out for a jog for the second time while staying in Hanoi. I really start to feel good about this jogging thing, although the speed is rather slow still due to the causiousness for the knees.

Enni wanted to write a note during the morning, it actually makes quite much sense! ;)

I was looking for a set of better shoes and Enni found it! The size was not the perfect fit though...

The sizzling chicken Tikka @Namaste, very good indeed!

We walked qutie a lot, all the way to Luvia ;)

All the scooter parks have their guard, so did this. Though the one on watch at the booth was tking a nap

It was not the first time that my internal little OCD guy got a stroke during our stay...

UFO's landing in Hanoi...? No, it's the temple island in the re-unification park along my jogging route

Tuesday

Tuesday was the third rainy day of the trip. Also the second consecutive and the second for the same week. It's always raining in Vietnam... ;)

So it was time for some indoor activity again. Inspired by Hong Kong I decided that we would go and have a look at the tallest building in Hanoi. It actually was the highest building in the whole peninsula still back in 2011. The Landmark 72 building is a 2011 opened set of towers that reach the height of 350 meters. It's located in the new Cau Giay business district, a new area to mostly host hotels and convention sites. It has a shopping mall, hotel and some office room to offer. This tower is one of the world stair climbing race places. I would not dare to try that... I would rather climb onthe outer surface. ;)

We were after the views from the tower so we paid for the tickets to enter the tower and took the one minute and 72 stories ride to the top of the building. There's an indoor panorama viewing floor to see to all the directions over Hanoi. The rainy weather was not the ideal to see it all but still a spectacular place to visit for the views. The observatory floor hosts also a 5D movie theater and a Living art gallery. The movie experience was a bit too much for Enni as she's not used to the 3D images getting that close. She was sitting in my lap with her heart pounding fast all the time and jumping up every time there was something approaching from the screen. The screen was actually 360 degrees in width which meant that you could turn around and watch behind you. Also some nice vibration elements together with air breeze elements were added to make the experience more alive. After the short movie Enni was not too willing to go to the Living/trick art gallery where they advertised to have a shark paintings and stuff. I was able to talk Enni to go into the exhibition if I carried her. After a while she was not willing to leave. Actually she wanted to enter again to see the paintings from up close.

On the way to see the Landmark 72 we saw a range of rain hoods, this one with a hard top for the second passenger...

...and this double "sun" roof model. :)

Our destination from the taxi windiw. Tall it is. Rain pouring down too it is.

Now how did I end up in here...?

To chair...

...or not to chair? That is the question.

Enni did not dare to enter the spoon nor take a picture me sitting on it either :)

After the trip to the Landmark we went back to our home street and jumped off the taxi at the J shoes store to find out whether they had any nice shoes to buy. They did not. That's a shame as the naming of the shoes would had fit me perfectly.

Later in the evening as Laura got back home we went to have a dinner in the Avallon restaurant. That was so far the best local food experience by far! The restaurant also offered a spectacular view over the Hoan Kiem lake. If you're coming to Hanoi, you don't wanna miss this one! Just make sure you some just before 7 PM as that's when they open the rooftop and after 5 minutes the whole floor is full packed. There's also the City view cafe next to the Avallon but at least according to the ratings it the food doesn't come even close to the Avallon's. The price was alos not that bad, fair I would say.

Girls on the rooftop of the Avallon restaurant. Enni starts to remind her father more and more day by day... ;D

After the dinner we visited the Legend beer restaurant few stories below. If you want to have a pint of something darker but still local this is the place to go to. They had darker Dunkel, a reddish Muncher and a lager on the list. I tried the two first ones as the lager is more widely available. They sai first that the Muncher was not available but when they brought the beer to the table they said is was Muncher. Well, one thing is for sure: it was not the lager.

Last week is on the go! The next 3 day's weather forecast shows +36 degrees figures and that's all fine for me! Last blog entries are going to be written this week as well. Now we're clocking at +1850 views on the blog. Lets see whether we hit the 2k mark! ;) I challenge ya'll!
