Day 23, June 16 th: Hanoi

Sunday was a one type of a Halong bay hangover day. Tired of all the relaxing if you know what I mean. :) Laura went to work as there was an inventory day at the factory. We then again decided to have a culture day, visiting one of the museums. Enni chose the prison museum to be the one we went to. But first we went to the pool to check out the weather. We went swimming for about an hour and we were done. After that a quick shower and drying out Enni's hair. After that Enni wanted to visit the Quan An Ngon once again and that's what we did.

After the lunch Enni wanted to take a nap, which was quite ok by me too. After the nap we had a Skype call with Enni's cousins, which took about an hour too. After updating what was going on in Finland and in Vietnam we started to look for the address to which we would go to. The reception personnel was not actually sure of the address but we took a taxi ride to the place they had spotted on our map. Soon we found out that there was no prison museum in this address. I was delighted to notice that the taxi driver was able to speak English though! As we couldn't find the museum we were supposed to we chose to find the War museum. That one was found but we also found out that the museum had closed their doors already. Darn. We then went to the Highlands cafe next door only to find out that no one was serving us. After two disapointments we took a taxi to the Truc Bach lake to find a restaurant to have dinner in. I had already earlier spotted the neon lights of one restaurant on the south shore of the lake. The restaurant was called Nam Long. The place seems like a fancy one with all the lobsters on the tanks at the entrance and small private cabins in the shore line. We were eating outside and that turned out to be an animal friendly option. There was a huge amount of gecko lizzards running around the place. We also saw dozens of bats flying around on the lake. I also think I saw a rat or two running accross the floor outside. So if you don't fancy this much animal activity while eating, you might want to choose to eat inside.

The Reunification park (Cong Vien Thong Nhat) evening activities

Nam Long restaurant had some pretty exceptional solutions on the outside decorations. For instance the palm tree going through the roof... :)

The Truc Bach lake view from Nam Long - the animal planet bar ;)

If you look carefully you will notice three geckos on the AC machine

The cashew chicken and ribs dish at Nam Long

After eating we wanted to go see the sights at the top lounge of Sofitel plaza that is directly on the other side of the lake. The views were awesome but the prices were high as well. We ended up paying more of our espresso and smoothie than the meal we just had earlier! ;) But I think that the views were well worth the price.

From Sofitel plaza we took a taxi back to our street and stopped by at the bakery to buy some breakfast and evening snack. From the bakery we walked back home to call it off for the day. The day was full of good ideas but less the actual doing. Well, these days come along every once in a while and there's always the next day! :)
