Day 18, June 11 th: Hanoi

Tuesday was a day of a mission. We got a mission from Laura to find her a sports bag and the lady version helmet (there's an opening for the pony tail in the neck) + we had to get some stamps to send out cards.

Started the dayby taking a taxi to a close by Cong Vien Thong Nhat park. The initial idea was to take a walk in the park and exit the park on the east side to get to the French quarter and the shops where they sold the helmets. The same shops we visited already earlier. I was kinda surprised to notice that there was an entrance fee. The fee was jut 6000 VND so it didn't actually matter and I also understood the reason as soon as we entered the park: it was a well maintained park with some kids activities! 2 weeks we havd been here all the time looking for a playground for Enni and it was right under our noses (if you look from the top of our building it actually is quite close to that)! There were some carousels, swings, slides, climbing and monkey bars. Most of them were free of charge but a small payment (15000 VND) was needed for instance for the carousel rides. Back in the days the place has been THE place to go to with your kids but it seemed like that was back in the 60's or 70's. Now most of the rides were closed and for example the train going around the whole lake in the park was no longer there. Enni wanted to take a ride on one of the carousels tht looked a bit suspicious and I have to admit that I have never seen one like it! :) It was a propel powered carousel with Vietnam flags all over it. See the video attached below. After a few rides and some time exploring the possibilities of the park we headed out of the park to fulfill our mission.

Someone had parked the car spot on! I thnk that he/she didn't mind the "parking ticket" though. ;)

Luckily I checked the slide before Enni taking a spin...! :D Some of the places were in a bit rough condition.

How to secure the swing chains, Vietnam style. Some steel wire fixes everything! ;D

After the park we took the exit on the east side and continued our tour of the day to the shopping street we were supposed to in the first place. On the way we stopped to have a lunch in the Chen restaurant, a Japanese style restaurant with staff that had never seen a white person before, I think. :) For the whole time spent in the restaurant we had minimum of 6 spectators and one time I counted 12 people around our table just watching us eat and adoring Enni. Of course the iPhones were flashing all the time taking pictures of Enni. :)

The lunch: Californian style sushi and salmon-rice cake. Rather goo I must admit!

After finding the helmet for Laura we rushed out to the direction of Hoan Kiem lake again as there were some shops where I had seen sports bags. And the post office was also in that direction.

After carefully looking for the different options Enni was sort of fed up with all the shopping and was starting to get ambitious to get back home. So I took the bag closest tous and we headed back to the apartment.

Laura's helmet and the goggles that came along

Didn't notice before but the planet earht next to the Hoan Kien lake has a pretty weird scaling... ;)

Yes, I know it's not a sports back but never have I bought a genuine LV-bag for a 10 €! ;D

After getting back to the apartment we went out for a swim but as it was so cold (yes, only 29 and the water was pretty much the same temp) we were not staying there for too long. Enni started to get cold. Poor thing... wonred how she'll cope when we get back to Finland. The same applies for me as well! ;) As we then had some extra time in the afternoon we went out for a cup of coffee in the close by Passion cafe. There was a grocery store next to it so we also went to pick up some things needed back at the apartment. In the evening we prepared a dinner at the apartment and I went out for a gym. That was the Tuesday this week. :)
